Differences - 2/3
People are all different. Thank goodness for that! Some of us are out the front trail blazing, others are supporters and workers, helping to make it happen and yet others are just takers - the ones who just get along with the free ride. Sure, it’s not nice to talk about these guys, but it’s true.
The FREE LUNCH people are the ones who just look after themself. They are the ones always looking for someone else to do their work. Always looking for the handout. The ones that blame others and don’t take responsibility for what they do, let alone who they are.
I’ve noticed a lot more honest accountability in business over the last 15 years or so . . .
Our Internet UNMASKED!! event today uses a promotion with a FREE LUNCH. The saying goes that there’s no such thing as a FREE LUNCH - you always get what you deserve; you reap what you sow. Not everyone applies this however.
Sine the 1987 stock crash, a plethora of talented (and not-so-talented) people have started their own businesses. There have been several waves of this as people were laid off - middle management, then skilled workers and semi-skilled as well. In the early years of this trend, the “suit brigade” expected you to have been in business for years, wear a suit and tie, have a flash car, and have a central city office.
Then things started to change. People looked less at pretence and looked more at your capacity to deliver. It didn’t matter so much how you looked or presented yourself, it was more about whether you could or would deliver the goods. This has meant that in general businesses that deliver on-time and on-budget succeed, and the ones that don’t, have a harder time making it work.
Despite the Governments best efforts, the FREE LUNCHies are missing out more and more in business. Good. That’s the way it should be. It’s a lot more “honest” this way and I love it.
The difference between a hanger-on and a leader or producer is attitude. OK, I know that there are also physical, spiritual and social things that influence us, but generally I’ve noticed that a guy (or gal) with a strong mind can break through addictions like smoking. I’ve met several people who have totally killed cancer through will-power. I don’t pretend to understand it all, but mind over matter is absolutely true in my books.
I teach my staff that we have to win the battle in the mind first. We’re winners not losers - up top first, then in practice. So one of the big differences between the people who just sit back and take and the ones who lead and produce is the strength of their mind.
While it might be politically correct to see us all equal (with some more equal than others), this thinking is just downright wrong and it’s ungodly. We are not all equal, and we are not all the same. Even if sometimes the two might mix, there is absolutely no good reason to put top achivers in the same social bracket as criminals.
God doesn’t treat us all equally either. Sure, He is equally fair, and equally just, but we all get different treatment. The bible talks a lot about social justice, but talks even more about accountability, rewards in keeping with our deeds, returning a crop based on what we sowed, getting what we deserve and being held accountable personally at the final judgement seat. Thank goodness for this, otherwise we would all be drawn down to the lowest common denominator, and we would have no reason to live good and proper lives.
It’s sometimes hard to fess-up to our failings. I’d like someone else to pay my parking fines sometimes. Sometimes it would be nice if someone else did take responsibility for something we did wrong.
Actually it did happen. Paul says in Romans that Christ did exactly that:
But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Romans 5:8
Wow! That’s kinda nice, actually. That someone would do that for me. It demands a response of appreciation from me. Now listen up all you FREE LUNCH people - you guys that want to abdicate your responsibility and get someone else to pay your bills . . . Romans 5:8 appears to be the answer to your meal-ticket.
OK, sure it may require a bit of humbling, and doing the right thing here-on-in, but what a return on investment if we do accept the gift. Thank goodness there is true accountability, and a difference between us all, even if the FREE LUNCHies can get “saved”!
The VICTUS IN AMBITUS way is to recognise that it takes all sorts to make the world, and to appreciate our differences.
